EOED was a research project carried out over 2003-2022 by Charlotte Brewer, who has published widely on the OED and on dictionaries more generally. Her history of the 20th-century OED, Treasure-House of the Language: the Living OED (Yale University Press) appeared in 2007. Now an emerita fellow of Hertford College and emerita professor of English language and literature at the University of Oxford, she co-edits the Murray Scriptorium, a project to digitise the letters and papers of Sir James Murray (1837-1915), first chief editor of the first edition of the OED.

Christopher Whalen established the project’s database and designed and set up the original website at the end of his undergraduate degree in English at Hertford College, Oxford in 2004. From 2010-20 he worked at Torchbox as a Search and Analytics Consultant. He rebuilt the current website in WordPress in his spare time. He is now a freelance technical marketing consultant.
