Encaenia 1928

On 5 June 1928, the Dictionary editors and publishers were honoured at the ceremony of Encaenia, a major event in the calendar of Oxford University, held at the end of the academic year, when honorary degrees are bestowed on public, academic and local luminaries. Here are the chief OUP officers who were thus rewarded, looking rather stiff in their ceremonial gowns: Humphrey Milford (Publisher), R. W. Chapman (Secretary), and John Johnson (Printer).
